It’s time to get into action. No more excuses, no more, “If only.” Take accountability for your life and start to reframe those excuses that keep you tied down.
Perception is key to resilience, Ray: Do you conceptualize an event as traumatic, or as a chance to learn and grow? This one little trait can change the entire trajectory of your life, and the good news is, you can learn it. These past two weeks have presented a lot of tough challenges for people. You want to pull the blanket up over your head and just give-up, or maybe, we can find the strength to marshal on? Be here after weather and sports as we explore the works of Victor Frankl, Norm Garmezy and others on the power of bouncing back. Right here on WTIC your Coaching Connection.
Let's go back to 2012 and see how you did with these affirmations. Remember them? It's time for a new look at how we will go into 2018. Time passes...make sure it is doing what YOU want. Take control with six positive affirmations to guide your thinking.
So often, Ray, I meet people who have the desire but not the fire, they want success but they can’t impress, they have a plan but they’re a flash in the pan. These people just get in line and wait for what life will give them. Today Coach is going to “give you some heat” to shake it up, to step out of line, and to find the work-around for your desires. Do you have the courage to be encouraged? Be here after weather and sports as we explore Alex Banayan’s “3rd Door,” on CT’s own WTIC your Coaching Connection.
Do you remember the story of McArthur Wheeler, the bank robber who thought his face would be invisible if he covered it with lemon juice? Well, he wasn’t and he was caught and this inspired the research of Dunning-Kruger titled “Unskilled and Unaware of it.” From this, we launch into 3 tips that will make your boss a raving fan. “My Boss, My Customer” begins right after weather and sports, here on WTIC your coaching connection.
Yesterday was CBIA’s (CT Business and Industry Association) annual Safety Conference. Phil Montgomery and team hosted a wonderful event. What continues to impress me when I am with the safety community is that the people are motivated by mission, not personal gain. Just after weather and sports we are going to pause for a moment of self-reflection to assess OUR motivation and if we convey a trustworthy attitude. Coming up… an important STARPOWER moment on WTIC your coaching connection.
Oh, Ray, it’s good to be here today. These are important times together with everyone when we can focus on how to be more effective in our lives, at home and at work. Ray, did you notice we had a storm this week? Not only did we get snow, we got wind…lots of wind; blizzard-like wind. Wind is important. Remember hearing about Biosphere 2 back in the early 90’s? It was a self-contained ecosystem. Interesting observation with the trees they grew; while they grew faster than their counterparts outside, they were not as robust in strength and roots and tended to fall under their own weight. Why? No wind. Be back after weather and sports as we explore the importance of wind in our lives here at WTIC your coaching connection.
Dr. Annette and I just led a workshop with senior management on becoming a Conflict Competent Team. Good group of people, all very experienced, but conflict…dealing with differences…was keeping them from solving problems and this was slowing down critical tasks. It became very apparent to me in the workshop that a group’s ability to deal with conflict is a critical skill set. Want to be more effective at work; in your family? Be here after weather and sports as we explore “The curse of conflict,” right here at WTIC your Coaching Connection.
Superbowl 51 weekend and competition is in the air. Competition is great when focused on your competitors…but what happens when it is focused inside your team? Today we take a deeper dive into our last session on being positive in 2017. Research out of the University of Florida shows that rudeness is contagious, like a cold. What? My behaviors are important? You bet. Today we look at a “Tale of two Bosses.” Be here after weather and SuperSports on WTIC1080 your Coaching Connection.
2017 is off and running and the scramble has begun. As 2016 reached fever pitch I got so tired of negative talk I was tuning out. I was tired of being told how bad I was, how awful my life was, that my views were wrong that my existence was wrong. Today we learn how to focus on the positive. Today it’s 3-for-Me! Get today’s handout at MyValueTree.com and be back after weather and sports at WTIC1080 your Coaching Connection.

Make yourself indispensible at work and home by improving the quality of your thinking. Give yourself an edge by becoming a critical thinker. When everyone else is falling apart in the despair of emotional thinking, you can bring excellence in thought. While each of us thinks, it is shocking just how much is biased, distorted, partial, uninformed and down-right prejudiced. Today, we will tinker with the thinker. Be here after weather and sports on WTIC, where we care to coach.
What a long time to be apart with many miles in between. In the past seven weeks I have been with numerous groups and am sad to report the number of times Coach was in the damage path of bad bosses; trying to rebuild, re-energize, reengage, refresh wonderful people who are mission driven, hard working, heart totally in the game people. Bad bosses, you are put on notice! Today Coach delivers a wake-up call to all bad bosses who shut down people’s potential and make our organizations less competitive.
“UggaBugga,” Ray is the signature phrase we would hear from our porter, Tom, on the recent cross-country train trip while on the Southwest Chief. Tom Fleshman, a true professional, a credit to his profession and one of the unsung heroes who creates a great customer experience every day; not because management is watching, not because it is an Amtrak standard, but because it is Tom’s standard. It is who Tom is. Today we explore “Why Care?” The art of delivering great customer experience.

Research out of Ohio State Business School proved that people’s moods at the start of the day affected how they felt the rest of the day. Today it’s time to check the “mood in your tude” right here on WTIC where Coaching Counts after weather and sports.

Today we decide to enhance our image and manage the perception of “looking smart.” Didn’t say you were smart, but there is a lot you can do to make others think you are. Hey, Ray, smiling faces…you remember what the Temptations said about them…they lie! Remember what the O’Jays said about them…back stabbers!
