Perception is key to resilience, Ray: Do you conceptualize an event as traumatic, or as a chance to learn and grow? This one little trait can change the entire trajectory of your life, and the good news is, you can learn it. These past two weeks have presented a lot of tough challenges for people. You want to pull the blanket up over your head and just give-up, or maybe, we can find the strength to marshal on? So often, Ray, I meet people who have the desire but not the fire, they want success but they can’t impress, they have a plan but they’re a flash in the pan. These people just get in line and wait for what life will give them. Today Coach is going to “give you some heat” to shake it up, to step out of line, and to find the work-around for your desires. Do you have the courage to be encouraged? Be here after weather and sports as we explore Alex Banayan’s “3rd Door,” on CT’s own WTIC your Coaching Connection.
Do you remember the story of McArthur Wheeler, the bank robber who thought his face would be invisible if he covered it with lemon juice? Well, he wasn’t and he was caught and this inspired the research of Dunning-Kruger titled “Unskilled and Unaware of it.” From this, we launch into 3 tips that will make your boss a raving fan. “My Boss, My Customer” begins right after weather and sports, here on WTIC your coaching connection.
Yesterday was CBIA’s (CT Business and Industry Association) annual Safety Conference. Phil Montgomery and team hosted a wonderful event. What continues to impress me when I am with the safety community is that the people are motivated by mission, not personal gain. Just after weather and sports we are going to pause for a moment of self-reflection to assess OUR motivation and if we convey a trustworthy attitude. Coming up… an important STARPOWER moment on WTIC your coaching connection.
Oh, Ray, it’s good to be here today. These are important times together with everyone when we can focus on how to be more effective in our lives, at home and at work. Saturday Morning STARPOWER Coaching is soon to begin…a cautionary tale of caustic speech, fear mongering and a quest for power. Are you up for today’s coaching session? Ray, did you notice we had a storm this week? Not only did we get snow, we got wind…lots of wind; blizzard-like wind. Wind is important. Remember hearing about Biosphere 2 back in the early 90’s? It was a self-contained ecosystem. Interesting observation with the trees they grew; while they grew faster than their counterparts outside, they were not as robust in strength and roots and tended to fall under their own weight. Why? No wind. Be back after weather and sports as we explore the importance of wind in our lives here at WTIC your coaching connection.
Dr. Annette and I just led a workshop with senior management on becoming a Conflict Competent Team. Good group of people, all very experienced, but conflict…dealing with differences…was keeping them from solving problems and this was slowing down critical tasks. It became very apparent to me in the workshop that a group’s ability to deal with conflict is a critical skill set. Want to be more effective at work; in your family? Be here after weather and sports as we explore “The curse of conflict,” right here at WTIC your Coaching Connection.
Superbowl 51 weekend and competition is in the air. Competition is great when focused on your competitors…but what happens when it is focused inside your team? Today we take a deeper dive into our last session on being positive in 2017. Research out of the University of Florida shows that rudeness is contagious, like a cold. What? My behaviors are important? You bet. Today we look at a “Tale of two Bosses.” Be here after weather and SuperSports on WTIC1080 your Coaching Connection.
2017 is off and running and the scramble has begun. As 2016 reached fever pitch I got so tired of negative talk I was tuning out. I was tired of being told how bad I was, how awful my life was, that my views were wrong that my existence was wrong. Having been in the world of organizational development for my career, this is a bad foundation for change. Today we look at the work of David Cooperrider and Appreciative Inquiry. Today we learn how to focus on the positive. Today it’s 3-for-Me! Get today’s handout at MyValueTree.com and be back after weather and sports at WTIC1080 your Coaching Connection.
